Dummerston Energy Committee intern provides ‘solar coaching’

DUMMERSTON — The Dummerston Energy Committee (DEC) has increased its capacity to work on energy projects for the town of Dummerston with the help of Nicole Davis, an energy intern from Student Conservation Association (SCA), funded by a grant from the Community Catalyst Fund of Clean Air – Cool Planet.

Davis is a graduate of the School for International Training, and has recently interned with Vermont Energy Investment Corp., which sponsors Efficiency Vermont. The SCA Energy Intern program is part of the National Conservation Internship program of the Student Conservation Association, whose mission is “to build the next generation of conservation leaders”, through volunteer conservation service.

In partnership with Transition Putney and the Putney Energy Committee (PEC), Davis is now available as a “solar coach,” assisting residents of both Dummerston and Putney with local solar resources to take advantage of solar incentives for homeowners and small businesses.

In working with both town energy committees, Davis serves a liaison between the two energy committees to increase communication in mutual projects of interest to both communities.

Other Dummerston town projects which Davis is assisting include developing a base-line, town-wide energy usage, a DEC goal under the Dummerston Town Plan, by collecting energy use data for all municipal and public buildings in town for the years 2005 through 2010.

Davis can be reached for solar coaching until mid-November at energy@dummerston.org.

DEC generally meets 6 p.m. on the first Monday of each month at the Town Office. Community members are encouraged to attend, but call the Town Office to confirm times and dates. Visit http://herakleitos.net/energy_comm/index.html for more DEC information.
