The Governor's Institutes of Vermont invites all Vermont youth to apply to attend one of seven summer institutes and prepare for college through what the institutes describe as “exhilarating and inspiring academic challenges.”
GIV summer institutes are hands-on learning opportunities for Vermont students in grades 9 through 11, which let talented young scholars immerse themselves in educational and artistic ventures and connect with professionals who encourage their passion and curiosity for learning.
Interested high-schoolers can select an institute that focuses on their personal or academic interests in arts, Asian cultures, current issues/youth activism, engineering, information technology, mathematical sciences, or environmental science and technology.
Participants will experience life on a college campus, make new friends from all over Vermont, gain new skills, and explore future career paths.
“The Governor's Institutes of Vermont was a life-changing experience,” one 2011 graduate said. “It pushed me past my limits and in the end I was rewarded with new friends and memories I'll never forget.”
Students should submit their application and scholarship requests to their school guidance department. Any Vermont student in grades 9 through 11 who has a passion for one of the seven areas of study can apply. Acceptance is based on school referrals and a written application. Scholarships are provided to students with financial need so that ability to pay tuition is never a factor.
For more information on GIV summer Institutes, or to download a registration and scholarship application form, visit www.giv.org, email info@giv.org. or contact your high school guidance department. Each school sets its own deadline; most are in March.
