Spaces available in Community Garden
BRATTLEBORO - The Recreation and Parks Department will take reservations for the Stockwell Drive Community Garden Site from April 13-20, when returning gardeners can register. On Monday, April 23, registration will begin for new gardeners.
The site offers 20 garden plots for $25. Each is 100 square feet.
Reservations will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
To reserve a plot, stop by the Recreation and Parks Office at 207 Main St. weekdays between 9 a.m. and noon and 1 to 4 p.m.

Housing Trust leader to speak at Putney Jobs Breakfast
PUTNEY - Connie Snow, founding member and executive director of the Windham & Windsor Housing Trust (formerly the Brattleboro Area Community Land Trust), will speak about a new housing assessment of the area along with the implications and the possibilities it presents.
Snow will speak at the Putney Jobs Breakfast on Thursday, April 12, from 7:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. at the Putney Inn.
The Putney Jobs Breakfast Series, supported by Transition Putney and the Putney Inn, explores the many sides of Putney's economy; breakfasts are held on the second Thursday of each month. All are welcome to attend; no reservations are necessary.
The cost of breakfast is by donation.

Monthly community supper served in Athens
ATHENS - The monthly Athens Community Supper will be served on Friday, April 13, at 6 p.m., in the basement of the Athens Community Church.
An Italian menu is planned, along with a dessert table.
Sponsored by Grafton Cares, the meal is free, but donations are welcome.

Broad Brook Grange to hold 'Tax Day' brunch
GUILFORD - Broad Brook Grange will present its first brunch of the year on Sunday, April 15, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Grange hall in Guilford Center.
“The event celebrates many happy returns, which the Grangers hope everyone will have filed by then,” event organizers write.
The all-you-can-eat brunch features eggs and omelets, any style, made to order. Also on the menu are pancakes, French toast, sausage, bacon, and home fries, with Guilford maple syrup.
Other treats include home-baked muffins, coffee cakes, pies, fresh fruit salad, and bread for toasting. A selection of juices will be available, along with coffee, teas, and milk.
No reservations are necessary for the meal, which is priced at $10 for adults; $8 for seniors, and $5 for ages 2-12. Kids younger than 2 get in free.
This event launches the 16th year of Grange brunches, and Sunday's brunch is an added fundraiser this year to support operation of the community building.
Other brunches will be held on Mother's Day, Father's Day and during foliage season.

BRATTLEBORO - There is still time to form a trivia team for the Brooks Memorial Library's third annual Say! What Do You Know Trivia Quiz. on Sunday, April 22, at 2 p.m., in the library's Main Room.
New categories this year include Name that Tune, Art in the Library, Olympic Sports, Geography/History; Environment, and Literary Quotes/Mis-quotes.
The quiz will consist of five rounds of five questions each, plus a special intermission round.
Prizes and refreshments will be available.
The event will raise funds to benefit the Friends of Brooks Memorial Library, whose mission is to help support services and programs at the library.

Townshend Common Farmers' Market prepares for fifth season
TOWNSHEND - Are you an area farmer interested in bringing local vegetables, fruits, meats, eggs, cheese, syrup, honey, or any other local food to market in the West River Valley? Do you create food items using raw materials sourced from local farmers?
The Townshend Common Farmers' Market is accepting applications for the 2012 market season.
The market takes place Thursday afternoons on the Townshend Common from 3:30 to 6:30, beginning June 7.
This market serves West River Valley residents and the many visitors traveling up and down the valley. Its mission is to support area farmers, increase access to local food and support a sustainable local economy. The market accepts EBT cards and Farm to Family Coupons. On rainy days, the market moves inside the Townshend Community Church on the Common.

Foxy Fund helps local animals, elders
SPRINGFIELD - Senior Solutions created the Foxy Fund three years ago in response to a memorial donation from a generous client. The fund reimburses unexpected critical expenses for companion animals of elders, such as a veterinarian visit or short-term medication, in Windham and Windsor counties.
The Foxy Fund, seriously depleted due to many requests, seeks contributions to provide for the care of companion animals who are so important in the lives of seniors.

Moore Free Library offers scholarships
NEWFANE - Generously funded by the family of the late Robert L. Crowell, the Moore Free Library is again offering $12,000 in scholarships to students living in Newfane and Brookline who will enter their first year of college this fall.
Applications will be judged by a scholarship committee, whose members will consider academics, contributions to the community, and financial need.
The number of scholarships awarded and the award amounts will be determined by the applications received.
Applications should include a brief autobiography (including plans for continued study and the name of the school to which the applicant has been accepted), high-school transcript, and a letter of reference.

Pettee Library offers downloadable audio books
WILMINGTON - The Pettee Memorial Library now offers free downloadable audio books to its card holders through Recorded Books OneClickDigital. This program provides access to downloadable audio books for adults, children, and young adults in a variety of fiction and nonfiction titles.
There are 3,400 titles (2,500 adult titles, 900 for youth) available, with no holds or waiting lists required. Recorded Books will add 30 adult and seven youth new titles each month. All titles are iPod compatible. If you don't own an iPod or MP3 player, the library has five available to check out.
Library members may download these audio books at the library or in their own homes from the library's website (petteelibrary.org). Look for the “Recorded Books” link under the “Online Resources” tab.

Rescue Inc. raffles 2012 Subaru to support equipment purchases
BRATTLEBORO - Rescue Inc. is raising funds by raffling a 2012 Subaru Impreza 5-door hatchback.
Tickets for the car, donated by Brattleboro Subaru, are $50 each, or three for $100. A maximum of 1,500 tickets will be sold, and the drawing will be held on the evening of July 4, at Living Memorial Park, just before the Brattleboro fireworks.
Rescue Inc., an independent, not-for-profit organization serving 15 towns, is always looking to improve its services and equipment and hopes to use proceeds for new pediatric equipment bags, new state-of-the-art monitor-defibrillators, and tablet computers.
Raffle tickets are being sold by Rescue staff and board members and will be available at other community events and retail locations.
Tickets will also be available during normal office hours at Rescue's headquarters at 541 Canal St., Brattleboro, adjacent to Exit 1, and may be purchased on the phone or online at www.rescueinc.org.
