Brattleboro Women’s Chorus presents annual Mother's Day concerts

BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Women's Chorus, with more than 6o singers directed by Becky Graber, will present “Enjoy Your Life,” the 16th annual Mother's Day weekend concert on May 12 and 13, with several special guests.

For the third spring concert in a row, pianist Alki Steriopoulos will be the guest musician. He will be joined by clarinetist Anna Patton. In addition, Patton's Women's Vocal Harmony Ensemble class at the Vermont Jazz Center will perform.

The concert will feature two songs by Minnesota composer Diane Benjamin, one of which was arranged for the Brattleboro Women's Chorus and is called “Enjoy Your Life.” The other is “You Get Proud by Practicing,” based on a work by Laura Hershey, a poet and disability rights advocate.

Several gospel songs that Graber learned from Kathy Bullock will be presented, including “Lookin' for a Miracle.” The trio Red Molly will sing “May I Suggest” by Susan Werner.

The concerts will be held Saturday, May 12, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 13, at 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church on Main Street. Tickets are available only at the door, and admission is $15 generous, $10 adult, $8 seniors and children.
