BRATTLEBORO — Artists and arts organizations are often trying to find money and other resources to fulfill a vision or a project. The topic of the next artists' forum to be held Nov. 7 will cover the sources of funding for artists in Windham County.
The workshop will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Sylvester Studio, Cotton Mill A-357, in Brattleboro.
The Arts Council of Windham County, in partnership with the Vermont Arts Council (VAC), is presenting this forum to help artists make the most of the opportunities currently available. Sonia Rae of VAC will bring the latest information on grant sources. Steve Procter will co-lead the event with a Windham County focus, and special guests will share their experiences with newer and less usual funding sources including crowd sourcing, corporate sponsorship, and patron cultivation.
Questions to be explored in the workshop include:
• What in an artist's life and business is fundable?
• What funding sources are appropriate for what projects?
• How does the project get communicated, both intellectually and emotionally?
• What kind of supporting information is effective?
• How often can one go back to the same source of funding?
• Where does the energy come from to do this?
• Has social media changed the funding world?
The forum will begin with a dessert potluck where attendees are encouraged to bring something to share and coffee will be provided. Tours of the Cotton Mill will follow. The forum is appropriate for all artists, craftsmen, and anyone involved in funding projects
