Knotweed as biomass?

BRATTLEBORO — RE: “In defense of knotweed” [Viewpoint, May 29]:

Where I used to live, most of my yard was knotweed; I've always liked it. It's actually an attractive bush, especially when it blooms.

The idea of using knotweed as biomass intrigues me. I can see a cottage industry of independent gatherers springing up to generate heat and power locally.
