Summer dance classes offered at MSA

SAXTONS RIVER — Vermont-based choreographer and performer Ashley Hensel-Browning is leading three intensive dance classes for youth the week of July 29 through August 2 at Main Street Arts.

Hip Hop and Modern Dance (ages 9-12) meets from 9 to 10 a.m. Participants will explore a variety of styles including modern and hip hop dance moves and choreograph their own dances.

Modern Dance and Creative Movements (ages 6-8) meets from 10 to 10:45 a.m. The aim is to encourage kids to get to know their bodies while learning about modern dance, hip hop, and improvisation.

Creative Movement (kids 3-5) meets from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. This introduction to dance terms and movement is explored through play and dance.

Hensel-Browning has most recently performed at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, the Cunningham Studios in New York, MassMOCA in North Adams, Mass., and the Vermont State Dance Festival.

She is currently choreographing the Opera Theatre of Weston's production of “The Magic Flute.” She also teaches at the Dance Factory in Springfield and works with local high school students to develop independent studies exploring movement, dance history, and culture.
