Summer reading camp was a success

JAMAICA — The Summer Reading Camp at Jamaica Memorial Library was a great success.

We worked on fiber projects, silk screening, mural painting, and we had live animals visit right in our town library. Campers learned the difference between amphibians and reptiles through slides and encounters with real animals. Participants also sang songs and dug in the dirt to search for signs of life.

All was made possible by the wonderful team of volunteers and incredible artists and teachers who took the time to be with these fortunate children.

As your librarian, I thank Hot Glass Works in Jamaica for donating glass ornaments for the children to keep. I also offer a huge thanks to our guests: fiber artists David Lima and Richard Muto, silkscreen artists Alison and Garrison Buxton, Michael Clough from Southern Vermont Natural History Museum, Jen Connor for her face painting artistry and Laura Clark for sharing her musical talent with us.

Thanks to all of our volunteers. I'm already looking forward to next year. Until then, keep reading!
