Rani Arbo, daisy mayhem to perform at Next Stage

PUTNEY — Next Stage Arts Project and Twilight Music present roots music quartet Rani Arbo and Daisy Mayhem at Next Stage on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m.

Hailed as one of America's most inventive string bands, Rani Arbo and Daisy Mayhem mix traditional, original, and contemporary sounds on fiddle, guitar, bass, and recycled percussion, and top it all with joyous harmonies from four skilled lead singers.

Together they'll hang a 200-year-old Georgia Sea Islands song over a New Orleans groove, set original lyrics to an Irish fiddle tune, and layer it with a groove on a South American box drum.

A Leonard Cohen cover gets a claw-hammer banjo, Springsteen gets high-octane, bluegrass- style harmonies, and the band's originals range from Unitarian funk gospel tunes to 1950s swing.
