New sub shop on Putney Road
Northside Subs & More has just opened on 896 Putney Road in Brattleboro, in the former D'Angelos spot next to One Stop Country Pet Supply.
Run by Dorothy Pond, the restaurant will serve lunch and dinner, Monday through Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. Sandwiches, soups, and salads will be the main fare on the menu.
Blue Moose store on Flat Street
Contrary to information provided to the Brattleboro Selectboard as part of the liquor license transfer process - an error that was unwittingly propagated in this column last month - its store will reopen as well at 8 Flat St. in March.
The Blue Moose Café will reopen soon at 39 Main St., in the space recently vacated by Brattleboro Cheese.
The bistro will have a new telephone number: 802-254-6245.
Special Sunday menu at Popolo
Popolo (36 The Square in Bellows Falls) will feature its New South menu “every Sunday for the foreseeable future.”
According to its Facebook post this week, the menu will feature a “variety of tacos, flautas, sopas, mole” food from Mexico, Latin America, and South America beginning March 2.
Putney restaurant recipe in magazine
Ismail Samad's recipe, “Slow-Cooked Oxtail With Yogurt & Sweet Potatoes,” appears in the current issue of Vermont Life amid other contributions from Vermont chefs on cooking lesser-used cuts of meat.
Samad is chef/co-owner of The Gleanery, at 133 Main St. in Putney.
Cooking class features international cuisine
Leslie's The Tavern at Rockingham (650 Rockingham Rd., Rockingham; 802-463-4929) will feature “Favorite Dishes From around the World,” a cooking class on Monday, Feb. 10 where participants will learn to cook “a dish that to a certain degree epitomizes the cuisine of that country.” Participants will do so for five or six countries.
