Another local business closes its doors in Jamaica

TOWNSHEND — Our community has lost yet another local staple. At noon on Friday, Feb. 4, the Jamaica Coffee House closed its doors, never to open again.

For eight years, Jamie and Dave Phillips were pillars of what remains of the downtown Jamaica business community. In good weather and bad, they opened up to serve hot beverages and food to locals and tourists alike.

They weathered Irene with us. The paid their taxes. They hosted community meetings. They extended credit to the regulars. They served strangers, friends, and neighbors alike until they could serve no more.

Now they are gone. They were everything a small town could want in local coffee shop, and their presence will be greatly missed.
