Culvert bids opened

STRATTON — Plans have been reviewed, and the bidding process has begun, for work to install a culvert on Mountain Road over Kidder Brook.

At a special meeting of the Selectboard March 17, members said bids will be accepted by the evening of April 7, with the bid awarded at their regular meeting April 14.

In the opinion of Jessica Rizio, civil engineer with Beck Engineering, who spoke at the meeting, the road may be closed for about three weeks.

Selectmen agreed to require that the road closure fall between July 7 and Aug. 29, with detour notices going up a week in advance. Paving and completion of the project will likely happen after, Rizio said.

Should the closure extend beyond Aug. 29, the selectmen said, then the contract will have a penalty assessed at $250 per day for each day it remains closed.

The town will not require bid or performance bonding for this project, according to draft meeting minutes.

Stratton's east side drains via Kidder Brook into the north branch of Ball Mountain Brook.

Pending a bid conference March 26, Rizio expected to approve precasting the culvert components.
