Green Up Day 2014 is Saturday, May 3. Vermont was the first state to designate a special day for cleaning up the entire state, 44 years ago in 1970.
Anyone can help. Arrange a group or just show up at one of the Windham County locations below. Pick up bags and sign in your area of clean up. For safety, wear bright colors, sturdy shoes, and gloves.

• Londonderry: Esther Fishman, 802-824-3306, or Maureen Cronix, 802-824-3782. Bags are available at Clark's IGA, Peoples' United Bank, Town Office, and the transfer station. Town trucks to receive full bags will be parked at the depot building in South Londonderry, the Mill parking lot in Londonderry, and the transfer station.
• Marlboro: Town Office, 802-254-2181. Bags are available at Town Office and at the elementary school. See the town map in its glass case outside Town Office.
• Newfane: Laura Bacon, 802-348-7891; Nissa Petrak, 802-348-6301. Bags are available at Newfane General Store and Town Office during the week prior to Green Up Day. Leave full bags visible on roadsides for Monday morning collection.
• Putney: Dan Toomey, 802-387-5402. A Putney town truck will be parked at the usual spot next to Town Hall, 8 a.m. Bags are available there all day. Take only as many bags as you need. Full bags go in back of truck.
• Bellows Falls/Rockingham: Ed Dinanny, 802-869-2397. Meet at Bellows Falls Union High School at 9 a.m. Volunteers are welcome to pizza at Athens Pizza at noon. Call Dinanny for bags needed in particular areas.
• Stratton: Lorraine Weeks-Newell, 802-896-6272. Town Hall from 8 to 10:30 a.m. to pick up bags and road routes. Refreshments served.
• Townshend: Heide Russ, 802-365-4712. Bags are available with town clerk and at the elementary school the week before, and 9 a.m. to noon on Green Up Day. Dump is open for full bags until 3 p.m.
• Vernon: No coordinator.
• Wardsboro: John Densmore, 802-896-6178. Meet at the Town Office at 8 a.m. Volunteers are welcome to homemade doughnuts, coffee, and cider, and fruit.
• Westminster: Karen Astley. Bags are available at Town Hall and Westminster West Library. Leave large items roadside with Green Up bag attached for pickup Monday.
• Whitingham: Aysha and Todd Wahlstrom, 802-368-2807. Meet at Town Hill Pottery at 9:30 a.m. Coffee and homemade doughnuts from Jacksonville Store. Lunch by Lions Club.
• Wilmington: Kathy Larsen, 802-464-2017, Rebecca Sweeney, 802-464-2017. Meet at Buzzy Towne Park from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. to get bags and route assignments. Hot dogs and soda at noon at Twin Valley High School.
