Brattleboro School of Dance presents ‘Passage’ at NEYT

BRATTLEBORO — Company of Muses and Brattleboro School of Dance present “Passage,” which brings together students, staff, and alumni in a program of 14 pieces choreographed by Brattleboro School of Dance faculty, for two weekends in May at New England Youth Theatre.

Performances are Fridays, May 9 and 16, and Saturdays, May 10 and 17, at 7:30 p.m., with Sunday matinees May 11 and 18 at 4 p.m.

As has become a spring tradition, the performance showcases the variety of disciplines the school teaches dancers of all ages.

Instructor of contemporary ballet Mucuy Bolles will début two newly choreographed pieces, The Butterfly and Insomnia; Mike DiFilippo will re-stage Cherish the Roses, a Viennese waltz.

Robert Royce and Jesse Tidquist will stage traditional ballet variations from “Sleeping Beauty,” including Royce's choreography of The Garland Waltz.

Nan Mann's troupe of dancers aged 7 to 11 will tell the story of “The Ugly Duckling” to music from “Swan Lake.”

Other selections each evening will feature modern, jazz, and tap genres.

New England Youth Theatre is at 100 Flat St., Brattleboro.

Company of Muses is a nonprofit organization composed of faculty, family, and friends of the Brattleboro School of Dance. Its purpose is to raise funds for dance scholarships for BSD students, faculty, and alumni.

The Kathleen Keller Higher Education Scholarship will be awarded for the first time this spring, the organization says.
