Hospice to host annual Memorial Planting Service
BRATTLEBORO - The 17th annual Memorial Planting Service, sponsored by Brattleboro Area Hospice, is Sunday, June 8, at 4 p.m. at the Brattleboro Area Hospice Memorial Garden at Living Memorial Park on Guilford Street.
The gathering will plant flowers, paint memorial messages on stones to be placed in the garden, and listen to beautiful music, all to honor and remember loved ones who have died. Everyone is invited.
Dress for the weather. A few chairs will be available, so bring your own or a blanket to be safe. Light refreshments follow. The service will be held even in light rain. Heavy rain would see the event postponed to Tuesday, June 10, at 5 p.m. If in doubt about whether the service is taking place because of rain, call the Hospice office starting at 2 p.m. on June 8 at 802-257-0775 and press 4.
Main Street Arts to host art, antiques, artifacts sale
BELLOWS FALLS - Main Street Arts of Saxtons River is calling everyone with the spring cleaning bug to donate those mountains of stuff they weed out from the attic, basement, and garage to its Art, Antiques, and Artifacts Sale on Sunday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The parking lot at Greater Falls Pharmacy, at 78 Atkinson St., will be cleared to make way for the sale. Besides the MSA tables, there will be spaces available to rent for those who want to do their own thing. Participants signed up include Sharon Boccelli & Company and the Windham Antiques Center.
Donated items can be dropped off at Christ's Church on Main Street in Saxtons River (rear basement door off the River Street parking lot) Wednesday through Friday, June 4 to 6, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., or by appointment by contacting MSA at 802-869-2960 or info@mainstreetarts.org.
The sale will be held rain or shine and will benefit the programs of the Main Street Arts, a community arts center serving southern Vermont and New Hampshire for 25 years.
'Brattleboro Goes Fourth' on Facebook
BRATTLEBORO - The “By the People: Brattleboro Goes Fourth” citizens committee is planning the town's 41st annual Independence Day celebration, set for Friday, July 4, with a morning parade downtown and an afternoon and evening program of free activities, concerts and fireworks at Living Memorial Park.
But first, its all-volunteer effort must raise money to pay for local bands, pyrotechnics, and appropriate liability insurance and security.
With the coming closure of Vermont Yankee, organizers say they're losing their sole longtime fireworks sponsor. As a result, they're collecting money from spectators at the evening show (“Pay As You Throw” meets “Pay So We Glow”) in hopes the community will allow the event to continue.
In addition, they invite area individuals, businesses, and organizations to offer donations at their annual WTSA radiothon on Friday, June 13 at the Brattleboro Area Chamber of Commerce on Main Street. (People can give in advance by mailing to “By the People: Brattleboro Goes Fourth,” P.O. Box 1112, Brattleboro, VT 05302.)

The Summertime Sings will be held on Wednesdays, June 18, July 18, and Aug. 6 and 20, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the All Souls Church in West Brattleboro. Pre-registration is advised and cheaper; each session is $10 prepaid, $15 at the door. The full series, prepaid, is $40. The deadline to register is a week before each session. They need a minimum of five registered singers on a part to hold the evening sing.
For a registration form, or more details, contact Graber at ragtime@sover.net or 802-254-8994.
