BRATTLEBORO — Poets Arlene Distler and Terry Hauptman will read from their work at the Twilight Tea Lounge, 41 Main St., on Friday, July 11 (Gallery Walk), at 7:30 p.m.
Distler will read from her first published collection, “Voices Like Wind Chimes,” brought out by Finishing Line Press this spring.
Vermont poet Chard DiNiord says of “Voices:” “These are moving lyrical poems that transcend mere experience with a distilled wisdom that resonates with spontaneous freshness...Distler's parallax vision reveals both the visceral and emotional interiors of her subject matter, especially as it evanesces before her, whether it be an octopus getting cleaned or those she has loved and lost. ” The poems have been characterized as “filled with insight and compassion."
Distler co-founded Write Action, with her late partner Marty Jezer, and has been active on its board since its inception in 2000. She edited and co-edited two anthologies of writing by its members, “The Best of Write Action, #1 and #2.”
Her poetry has appeared in Kalliope, North American Review, New Millennium Writers, Chrysalis Review, Birchsong: Poetry Centered in Vermont, and is forthcoming in “Whitman Cooks! Poetry Cookbook” (at the Friends of Whitman website).
Hauptman is a poet/painter who has traveled to many corners of the world (her home is in Vermont), and her poetry evinces her world vision. She is the author of three poetry collections: “Masquerading in Clover,” “Rattle,” and “On Hearing Thunder.” She exhibits her spirited, visionary paintings, “Songline Scrolls” nationally. Her most recent manuscript is entitled, “The Indwelling of Dissonance.”
Tea and refreshments will be available before, mid-way, and at the end of the reading. For more information, contact the Twilight Tea Lounge at 802-254-8887, or email: anneka@twilighttealounge.com.
