BRATTLEBORO — Brooks Memorial Library hosts poet/artist/performer T. Namaya and his B4 Peace Team in October for a multifaceted exhibit, “A World Illuminated by Imagination,” to celebrate the library and the enchantment of books - and how both enrich our lives and communities.
The program announcement notes the exhibit “has several parts including Jazz Ku, a savant-grade fusion of painting and poetry, and the 100 Flowers of Peace poem, which is now translated into 105 languages.”
In connection with the exhibit, GRACE Cares is sponsoring a contest, “A World Illuminated by Imagination,” to celebrate the library and to ask, “How does the library illuminate one's imagination?”
Organizers say to “send the word or image answer to that question,” including “essays, poems, photos, drawings, etc.,” to info@gracecares.org or GRACE Cares, 773 Guilford St., Brattleboro, VT 05301.
Deadline for submissions is Oct. 3. Finalists will be named Oct. 5. Winning entries will be displayed at the library.
Related events include a children's performance, “On the Island of Binga Bonga,” which “follows the war that never was,” taken from Namaya's CD by that name, at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, Oct. 10.
Namaya says that the library was a refuge for him when he was a child. He and the B4 Peace team say they are happy to have a chance to help honor the Brooks Memorial Library.
B4 Peace invites all to an open house at their new studio, 773 Guilford St. next to Blue Heron Pond, on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 1 to 4 p.m.
On Sunday, Oct. 12, also from 1 to 4 p.m., B4 Peace holds “Dyeing for Peace,” a workshop on natural indigo dyeing, led by Justin Bullard. The suggested donation for GRACE Cares is $25. RSVP to info@gracecares.org.
