Windham County Drug Take-Back Day is Sept. 27

The Windham County Sheriff's Department and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, working with local law enforcement agencies and prevention coalitions throughout Windham County, announce a drug take-back day on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The free, anonymous, no-questions-asked event aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of drug disposal while educating the general public about the potential for abuse of these medications.

During the most recent such event, in April, Americans overall turned in more than 390 tons, or 780,000 pounds, of prescription drugs at approximately 10,500 sites nationwide.

That, combined with eight earlier take-back events, hauled in more than 2,100 tons, or 4.2 million pounds, of pills, said a local law enforcement spokesperson in a press release.

Four permanent drop box locations are located nearby. Only pills and patches are accepted at these locations, so no sharps, please.

On Sept. 27 bring your medications for disposal to:

• Windham County Sheriff's Department, 11 Jail St., Newfane.

• Brattleboro Police Department, 230 Main St., Brattleboro.

• Bellows Falls Police Department, 170 Rockingham St., Bellows Falls.

• Vermont State Police, Brattleboro barracks, 464 Marlboro Rd., West Brattleboro.

• Wilmington Police Department, 2 East Main St., Wilmington.
