BELLOWS FALLS — On Sunday, Nov. 23, take a Christmas train ride with Santa and the Grinch, caroling elves, and special surprises on the Green Mountain Railroad in Bellows Falls.
The historic Green Mountain Flyer will be filled with holiday cheer as it travels from Bellows Falls to the North Pole (Chester Station) and back again.
This scenic route has a long heritage of tourism going back to 1964, when the Monadnock, Steamtown and Northern Amusement Corporation set up Steamtown USA, and Green Mountain Railroad was off and running excursion trains along the stunningly beautiful Bellows Falls to Chester route.
During the past year, there have been track improvements, along with cutting brush and trees back from the track to reveal more panoramic vistas than have been available in over a decade.
The historic engines and coaches, with everyone's favorite Christmas characters providing entertainment, will depart the Bellows Falls train station three times on Nov. 23: at 9:30 a.m., 1:15 p.m. and 5 p.m. The historic station will have the passenger waiting room outfitted for the holidays. An “O” gauge model train set will be fixed up as a cultural heritage representation of the industrial island.
Proceeds from the Santa Express will benefit the BF Middle School Band Friends and Destination Bellows Falls/Sustainable Valley Group.
