HALIFAX — An early morning house fire on Nov. 13 took the life of a Halifax man.
According to Vermont State Police, the Halifax Fire Department responded at 1:31 a.m. to a house fire on 2978 Reed Hill Rd. The home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, and a second alarm was sounded.
The fire was put out by about 3:30 a.m., as Halifax firefighters were assisted by crews from Whitingham and Colrain, Mass.
State police said the body of Ray White Jr. was discovered after an interior check of the home. According to a neighbor, White and another tenant, Benjamin Potter, had escaped the fire and Potter called 911 from their house.
That was the last time White was seen alive, state police said. A dog living in the home also died in the fire.
The state police Fire Investigation Unit was called in at the request of the Halifax Fire Department to determine the origin and cause for the fire. State police say the cause of the fire is undetermined and not suspicious.
The home, owned by Dawn Nebelski of Halifax and rented to Potter, was destroyed in the blaze, state police said.
