Friends of Brooks Memorial Library presents holiday book sale

BRATTLEBORO — The Friends of Brooks Memorial Library Holiday Book Sale will be held in the library on Friday, Dec. 5, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Gift-quality books and gently used fiction, nonfiction, children's books, and CDs will be on sale. Nonfiction titles include art, cooking and gardening, history, and music, for starters.

The Friends will provide free gift wrapping for items purchased at the sale and intended as gifts. Look for that service on Saturday between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The Friends host book sales three times a year, with the proceeds going to the library for the purchase of books, technology updates, Children's Room materials, free museum passes, and the acquisition of digital and online resources.

This year, the Friends are also hosting a fundraising raffle for a locally designed and handmade Colonial style bookcase. The bookcase is 44 inches tall and 24 inches wide. The traditional dovetail joints are hand-cut.

The warm honey-pine finish is the result of multiple hand-rubbed layers of carefully applied finish. The five shelves are spaced to hold contemporary standard size hardback and paperback books. The bookcase is on display in the library.

The bookcase raffle tickets, $2 each or three for $5, are available at the library's front desk. The drawing is Monday, Dec. 15, and the winner will be notified by phone.

The Friends are also selling the popular “2015 Book-Lover's Calendar.” These are available at the front desk for $10 each. All proceeds support the library.
