Parks & Recreation Department gets $50,000 grant for West River Park work

BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Recreation & Parks Department recently received a $50,000 grant from the Withington Fund of the Vermont Community Foundation for the completion of work at West River Park.

The recreation area and ball fields, located on Route 30 on the bank of West River, opened in 2013. It was built with private funds.

Recreation & Parks Director Carol Lolatte said the funds will be used to complete the park's concession stand and rest room facility, install bleachers for spectators at the softball field, and finish work on a playground.

Lolatte said she hopes to put out bids soon for the concession stand now that her department has this grant.

The Recreation & Parks Department is still fundraising for the final projects at West River Park, selling engraved bricks for $100, which will be part of a paved walkway around the concession stand.

One can have up to three lines of engraving, with 14 characters per line (including spaces) per brick.
