Putney library board ‘example of all the good things a dedicated group of volunteers can do’

PUTNEY — I am writing to give my grateful applause to the trustees of the Putney Public Library.

As the retiring director of the library, I wish to publicly express my appreciation and respect for this board and its nine members who have done so much in the last six years for the library and the townspeople.

Working together with diligence, humor, and a sense of camaraderie, they have quietly excelled at carrying out their duties as elected officials to the greater benefit of all.

This is a board of trustees whose time has been wisely spent managing their fiduciary responsibilities, supporting the staff (without micromanaging), updating policies and procedures, planning, and reaching out to the community to provide a wide spectrum of numerous after-hours programs.

This board serves as an example of all the good things a dedicated group of volunteers can do when personal agendas are put aside and working together means upholding the highest of values.

Thanks to the board's hard work and support, the Putney Public Library has received wide-range recognition as one of the finest small-town libraries in Vermont, a library all the townspeople of Putney can take pride in.

Finally, I would like to name these nine individuals ... please take a bow: Chris Osgood, Randy Smith, Gay Foster, Paul Levasseur, Louise Papowitz, Mal Herbert, Rebecca Nixon, Frankie Knibb, and Abijah Reed.

It has been a pleasure to work with you all. My many thanks.
