Oak Meadow sponsors local arts classes for homeschoolers

BRATTLEBORO — Oak Meadow, a local provider of secular, progressive, experiential homeschooling curriculum for K-12, has teamed up with several Brattleboro-area organizations to make arts education more accessible to local homeschooling families.

With Oak Meadow's support, special classes for homeschoolers and/or discounts for homeschoolers are being offered by the following local organizations. Contact each directly for more information and registration.

• NECCA (New England Center for Circus Arts) (802-254-9780, info@necenterforcircusarts.org): Students learn group pyramids, solo tumbling, aerial skills, and juggling while learning how to work together, stay strong, and have physical confidence. Wednesdays, 10 to 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. to noon, Fridays 1 to 3 p.m.; ages 5-16. For more information visit necenterforcircusarts.org.

• River Gallery School of Art (802-257-1577, rgsart@sover.net): RGS offers art classes for all ages in a studio environment with instruction in drawing, painting, sculpture, and mono-printing as well as multi-media techniques. They welcome homeschoolers and offer a discount to homeschoolers taking any winter/spring classes. For more information, visit rivergalleryschool.org.

• NEYT (New England Youth Theater) (802-246-6398, ext. 101, michelle@neyt.org): Learn theater basics through Shakespeare's comedies, clowns, and fools through a just-for-homeschoolers class with a true-to-text exploration of voice, breath, staging, escalation, and other comedic/dramatic skills. Fridays 10 a.m. to noon, Jan. 23 through Feb. 27 (six classes), ages 8 to 14. For more information, visit www.neyt.org.

•In-Sight Photography (802-251-9960, info@insight-photography.org): Thursdays, 1 to 3 p.m., starting Feb. 4. A black-and-white film photography class for homeschoolers offers beginners the basics of film developing, darkroom printing, and 35mm camera operation; students with more experience will be able to explore advanced techniques in composition, lighting, and darkroom printing.
