Sugar on Snow supper March 7
GUILFORD - Broad Brook Grange's annual Sugar on Snow Supper will be held Saturday, March 7, at the Grange hall in Guilford Center.
Always the first sugar supper of the season in Windham County, the meal features ham, baked beans, deviled eggs, cole slaw, potato salad, rolls, pickles, homemade donuts, and Guilford maple sugar on Guilford snow.
There will be three seatings: at 5, 6, and 7 p.m. At each seating, a half-gallon of Guilford maple syrup will be raffled.
This longtime annual fundraiser helps support the many activities of the Grange. Tickets for the supper are $12 for adults; $5 for children ages 5-12; and $2 for kids age 4 and under.
Reservations are strongly recommended, as the supper usually sells out in advance. A waiting list will also be kept, and those with reservations who cannot make it are asked to phone their cancellation. Usually a few unreserved seats remain for the 7 p.m. Reservations made be made by calling Thayer Tomlinson at 802-257-5359.
The Grange hall is located on Guilford Center Road, four miles west of the Guilford Country Store.
Corned beef, cabbage supper in BF
BELLOWS FALLS - The United Church of Bellows Falls on School Street will host a New England boiled dinner on Saturday, March 7, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
On the menu is corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, pickled beets, rolls, cake, and beverages. Admission is $10 for adults, $6 for children ages 5-12, and free for those under 5. For advance tickets, call Janice Manning on 802-463-3485. Take outs are available.
'Love, Lust, and Liquor' at Landmark
PUTNEY - On Monday, March 9, at 7 p.m., Emily Nagoski, Ph.D., will speak at Landmark College (landmark.edu) on “Love, Lust and Liquor.”
In this hour-long talk, Nagoski will discuss how sex works in the brain and how alcohol can have an impact. She will confront common myths and answer questions.
Nagoski, the director of wellness education at Smith College, is the author of Come as You Are: The Surprising New Science That Will Transform Your Sex Life (Simon & Schuster, 2015). She holds a Ph.D. in health behavior with a concentration in human sexuality from Indiana University and completed a clinical internship at the Kinsey Institute Sexual Health Clinic.
This free talk will be held at the Greenhoe Theater in the Fine Arts Building at Landmark College, located at 19 River Road South.
Crowther to give talk on Iceland trip
BRATTLEBORO - The Brattleboro Senior Center presents Maisie Crowther, who will give an informal illustrated talk about her trip to Iceland on Tuesday, March 10, at 10:30 a.m, at the Center, 207 Main St.
Stay after the talk for a lunch of shepherd's pie, raspberry beets, sugar snap peas, and tropical fruit. There is no fee for attendance, but the normal fee for lunch applies. Call 802-257-7570 if there are any questions.
BF Woman's Club to meet
BELLOWS FALLS - The Bellows Falls Woman's Club, a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC), will hold its March meeting on the 10th, at the United Church on School Street, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Members will be anticipating spring, as Stacy Allen of Allen Brothers nursery will present a program on container gardening.
Also, the club's annual Art Show at the high school is scheduled for April 14; club members may sign up to attend at the March meeting.
BAMS to offer parenting workshop
BRATTLEBORO - Guiding Good Choices is a free, interactive, five-session, two-hour course for parents and caregivers of children in grades 4-8. The series provides the tools and strategies to meet the challenges of guiding your child through adolescence.
The course covers setting clear guidelines with both positive and negative consequences, controlling and expressing anger constructively, promoting family bonds, and preparing kids with “refusal” skills for the time down the road when trouble might tempt them.
The series runs on Wednesdays, March 11 through April 8, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at the Brattleboro Area Middle School. Dinner will be provided. Child care is offered upon request. Stipends are provided to those who complete the series.

BFUHS class of 2018 hosts Art Party fundraiser
WESTMINSTER - The Bellows Falls Union High School class of 2018 will hold an Art Party fundraiser to help raise funds for the annual ninth-grade trip to Boston.
The Art Party will take place at the Saxtons River Inn on Thursday, March 12, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. This step-by-step painting tutorial will be led by Monadnock Art Parties' artist Kristina Wentzell. Beginners are encouraged to attend! Registration includes 2-3 hours of art instruction and all materials. Food and beverages are available for purchase. The cost for this event is $50.

Writing workshop presented at RFPL
BELLOWS FALLS - On Saturday, March 14, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Elayne Clift will offer a free writers' workshop, “Life Stories: Memories of Love, Action and Thought” at the Rockingham Free Public Library.
Through interesting prompts and facilitated exercises, Clift, an award-winning author, will guide participants as they write and share stories. Come prepared to compose, share, laugh, and discover your inner writer. Brown bag lunches and laptops are welcome.

Senior Solutions offers caregivers workshop
BRATTLEBORO - “Powerful Tools for Caregivers” is a free educational series designed for caregivers of elders. This six-week program will be offered for the first time in this area starting March 31 and meeting every Tuesday through May 5.
Led by staff from Senior Solutions, the meetings will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Hayes Court in West Brattleboro.
Family and friends who help elders will learn how to reduce stress, improve communication, find helpful resources, navigate difficult decisions, and balance their lives. RSVP by March 18 to the Senior Helpline at 800-642-5119.
CCV offers free intro to college
BRATTLEBORO - Community College of Vermont will offer a free course to area high school students.
The course, “Introduction to College Studies,” will be held at CCV's Brattleboro academic center at 41 Harmony Place in downtown Brattleboro on Wednesdays from 6-8:30 p.m., beginning March 18 and ending June 10.
The non-credit course provides an orientation to the college experience and career exploration for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
This course helps students make the transition to college and careers by exploring the skills and expectations necessary to succeed in academic and professional settings.
