Sales of new book on salamanders to raise funds for environment education center

BRATTLEBORO — The salamanders are beginning to cross our roads on their way back to the vernal pools where they were born.

And, just in time, Dummerston author and forest expert Lynn Levine has published a new book, Is It Time, Yet?

This children's picture book is a story for ages 4 to 10. It tells the tale of Spot's early spring journey to a vernal pool to find a mate.

On the way, Spot, a yellow spotted salamander, meets with Leo, the wood frog, Blue Speckle (another salamander), Ol' Uncle Dot, and a young boy who helps him avoid cars and safely cross the road.

The illustrations for this picture book were given to Levine by German illustrator Dirk Steinhofel. The realistic drawings look almost like photographs.

Through April 17, there will be a fundraiser for Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center (BEEC) from the sale of Is It Time, Yet? at Vermont Artisan Design, 106 Main Street in Brattleboro, where 40 percent of the sales of the books will be donated to BEEC.

Also, on Sunday, April 19, Levine will be doing a booksigning at Everyone's Books on Elliot Street.
