BUHS class of 1965 prepares for 50th reunion

VERNON — In just a few short weeks, the Brattleboro Union High School class of 1965 will be celebrating its 50th reunion. Class activities will encompass the entire weekend of June 19-21. Local members of the class have been planning this event for five years.

The class of '65 was one of the largest graduating classes from BUHS, with 241 alumni matriculating. A significant turnout is expected.

The class has been diligent in locating members, but we still have been unable to locate nine members: Barbara Behnke, Douglas Bennett, Pamela Buzby, Katherine Conrad, James Erno, Stephen Guyette, James Gwinn, Beatrice Martin, and Jane VanWyck.

We would like to send invitations to them for the reunion. If you know their whereabouts, let them know that we are attempting to contact them. Also, you may contact me at 802-251-0988 or fcwether@comcast.net if you have information.

The alumni weekend commences with a meet and greet at the Elks Lodge, 75 Putney Rd., Brattleboro on Friday, June 19, beginning at 6 p.m. A light buffet will be served, and donations will be appreciated at the door.

On Saturday, June 20, starting at 10 a.m., the class will meet at the new main entrance to BUHS, 131 Fairground Rd., Brattleboro, for a tour guided by Principal Steve Perrin. Parking is available in the student parking lot.

That evening, the 50th Reunion Committee has planned the following at VFW Post 1034, 40 Black Mountain Rd., Brattleboro: cocktail/social hour/entertainment, 5 to 6 p.m.; sit-down dinner/entertainment, 6 to 8 p.m. with a choice of three entrees; dancing to Shakin' All Over with the BUHS Alumni Association, 8 p.m. to midnight.

The final send-off event will be Sunday, June 21, where the class will meet for brunch at the Elks Lodge from 10 a.m. to noon. Donations will be appreciated at the door.

The committee has done much to plan for a marathon weekend, and those who attend will be afforded the opportunity to once again reconnect with classmates for a wonderful social event.
