Amy’s to remain open

Bakery founder says she's working on a deal for a new owner

BRATTLEBORO — On June 5, one day before Amy Comerchero planned to close her namesake bakery and café, a sign appeared on the front door saying the shop would stay open.

According to Comerchero, she is “working on selling” Amy's Bakery Arts Café, located on Main Street.

“We're in talks,” she said, referring to an unnamed party interested in purchasing the business.

Meanwhile, Comerchero said she wants to stay open, and “they would, too.” She said it made sense to keep the bakery and café running while they work out the details and transfer ownership from Comerchero to the new entity.

Meanwhile, locals and tourists rejoiced on the shop's Facebook page.

Sue Fleishaker of Westchester, N.Y., wrote, “Glad to hear this news. You are always the first place we go to when in town."

Comerchero said she “may stay on” to help manage the business when the new owners take over.

“It's up for negotiation,” she said, adding, “I'm going to have to do something with myself."
