Acoustic world music comes to Putney June 28

PUTNEY — An evening of mandolin-based, acoustic world music by the Will Patton Ensemble comes to town on Sunday, June 28.

Will Patton, Thal Aylward, Clyde Stats, and Dono Schabner have been playing their spirited stew of world music throughout the Northeast for more than 15 years, creating an improvisatory dialogue rich in melodic and harmonic invention.

Mandolin magazine has described the music as “elegant, memorable lines... powerful and sophisticated, perfectly capturing the essence of the style.”

Patton has played his music all over the world, and his collaborations with legendary gypsy guitarist Ninine Garcia from Paris have received critical acclaim both in the U.S. and abroad.

He has had a lifelong passion for the Brazilian roots music known as choro, featuring eloquent Portuguese melodies set against a harmonic backdrop of American jazz and propelled by the powerful rhythms of Brazil.

Patton's bands have shared the stage with performers such as Ray Charles, Bonnie Raitt, Toots Thielemans, and Van Morrison.

The concert is part of Twilight Music's 13th annual Twilight on the Tavern Lawn series of folk, world beat, rock, jazz, zydeco, Celtic, swing, blues, and bluegrass summer concerts.

The seven-concert series continues every other Sunday through Aug. 23.
