JAMAICA — The Jamaica Memorial Library has been awarded two grants from The Vermont Community Foundation.
These grants support endeavors that “contribute to the betterment and vitality of the Brattleboro area.”
In early 2016, these funds along with private donations, will be used to create a bathroom within the library building. This will affect the number of patrons who visit the library as well as their ability to stay in the library for pleasure, meetings, and research for longer periods of time and will accommodate children's and adult programming needs.
The Crosby-Gannett Fund grant will provide fixtures and installation for the project and the Dunham-Mason Fund grant will help provide building materials. The Library Trustees have contracted with Marquise & Morano, LLC, of Bellows Falls for engineering services. Greg Joly, a local resident and a library trustee, will manage the project.
Serving a rural population consisting of just over a thousand longtime and seasonal residents, the library's primary mission is to provide quality reading, viewing, and listening opportunities for patrons. A secondary but equally important role is to provide free programming for all ages.
The Vermont Community Foundation is a family of hundreds of funds and foundations established by Vermonters to serve their charitable goals. Visit www.vermontcf.org or call 802-388-3355 for more information.
