Auditions to be held for ‘A Christmas Carol’

BRATTLEBORO — Vermont Theatre Company announces auditions for its third annual production of “A Christmas Carol,” on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 4 p.m., and Monday Sept. 19, at 6 p.m., in the auditorium at Brattleboro Union High School on Fairground Road (enter through first set of doors on front of building as you approach from Canal Street, Route 5).

This production of Charles Dickens' classic story is a new adaptation written by Jessica and James Gelter. James Gelter is the director. “A Christmas Carol” is a ghost story about Ebenezer Scrooge, a heartless old miser, who, with the help of an old friend and some magical beings, finds love and generosity in his heart.

Performances will be Dec. 2-4, 9-11, and 16-18 at the Evening Star Grange in Dummerston.

The director is seeking actors in a variety of ages and genders. Roles available include: Ebenezer Scrooge (male age 50 ), Jacob Marley (male age 20), Bob Cratchit (male age 30-50), Tiny Tim (child age 5-8), Mrs. Cratchit (female age 30-50), Belle (female age 15-30), Fred (male age 20-50), Beggar (age 8-20), Fan (female age 8-15), Young Marley (male age 15-30), and various other ensemble roles with lines and/or musical solos.

Auditioners are asked to come prepared to sing the melody of “Joy to the World,” and do cold readings of scenes from the show. Sides are available beforehand by contacting the director.

Production assistance is also being sought. Volunteers who would like to work on costumes, props, or special effects should contact the director.
