BRATTLEBORO — Is the key to supporting local agriculture simple arithmetic? A group of local technologists and agriculturalists think so, according to a news release.
On one side of the equation are the high-end food service providers who take pride in, and get a marketing edge for, using unique, fresh ingredients.
On the other end of the equation are the many thousands of small-scale farmers, homesteaders, and land/forest owners who are growing such products on their land or could easily learn to cultivate them.
The missing factor in this equation is a marketplace where those who produce or wild-harvest such products can connect with customers. Such a venue could make unusual products available to a broad and discerning audience and offer immediate delivery to retain freshness.
A free and public discussion on this topic, led by Tad Montgomery of Tad Montgomery & Associates and sponsored by Brattleboro Area Technologists, will be held Thursday, Sept. 15, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at the Brattleboro Food Co-op Community Room, 7 Canal St.
