Dance for Trains, a collaboration of poetry and movement, comes to BMAC

BRATTLEBORO — On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Union Station, the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center, Write Action, and SoBo Dance Studio will present an evening of dances set to poetry and music with the theme of trains.

“Dance for Trains” is in affiliation with the Brattleboro Literary Festival. It will take place on Thursday, Oct 13, from 7 to 9 p.m., at BMAC.

The evening will consist of Tracy Grissom and TraDANCE Company performing to “Observations on a Subway” by U-Meleni Mhlaba-Adebo; Cyndal Ellis, Toni Nagy, and Katie Tordonato performing to “Beast” by Arlene Distler; Claire LeMessurier and Bev Miller performing to a poem by Bev Miller, “It's Not The Train”; and Cyndal Ellis performing solo to “Downtown” by Joel Kaemmerlen.

Performances will be interspersed with short readings of train-themed poems submitted for the event by area poets Elayne Clift, Lynn Martin, Kevin Stine, Rolf Parker-Houghton, and Audrey Boerum. Light refreshments will be served.

Write Action is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to strengthen a community of writers in the Brattleboro area and to encourage, nurture, and promote the literary arts in the wider community.

SoBo is a community dance center committed to keeping dance accessible, noncompetitive, and a vital part of the health and growth of our community.

There is a suggested donation of $10 for admission.
