The New England Coalition on Nuclear Pollution has invited its members and the general public to join a celebration of 45 years of challenging the nuclear power industry at the NEC's annual meeting at 118 Elliot St. on Oct. 22, starting at 1 p.m.
According to a news release, highlights will include a briefing by Ray Shadis on issues involved in restoring the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant site; a presentation by Maggie and Arnie Gundersen of Fairewinds Energy Education titled “The Flawed Myth of Nuclear Power,”; the film “Down to Earth Climate Justice Stories” - first-hand stories told by activists on the climate change front - with an introduction by Producer Anne D. Burt; and the honoring of NEC members Carol Levin and Gary and Leslie Sullivan-Sachs for their longtime fight against nuclear power.
Social time with appetizers and refreshments will follow the formal program, with the NEC providing hot chocolate, seltzer, and juice, and attendees welcome to bring their own beverages. An “as you can” potluck will follow, with gluten-free and vegan options, as well as an open mic for sharing thoughts, stories, poems, and songs. Donations will be accepted for Clay Turnbull's legal defense fund related to his arrest and subsequent prosecution on a trespassing charge related to a spent-fuel site photo-gathering excursion.
The NEC requests that those planning to attend RSVP to Clay Turnbull at 802-257-0336 or necnp@necnp.org, but last-minute attendance is welcomed.
Donations to the NEC may be sent to “NEC,” P.O. Box 545, Brattleboro, VT 05302. The NEC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax deductible.
