BRATTLEBORO — The staff and board of directors of Groundworks Collaborative thank the many individuals and businesses that made our sixth annual Hike for the Homeless on Oct. 1 a great success!
Despite the rainy weather, 55 participants turned out to help Groundworks raise over $24,000 in support of our work to house our neighbors experiencing homelessness. Teams and individuals started hiking at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. - some trekked to the summit of Mount Wantastiquet, while others walked the River Trail at the base of the mountain.
In addition to raising funds for Groundworks Collaborative, the event helps raise awareness of our neighbors experiencing homelessness in the greater Brattleboro area.
We are pleased to report that the hike came in just shy of our $25,000 goal! Every dollar we raise is used to support our work providing ongoing support to our neighbors experiencing hunger and/or homelessness.
We're very thankful for the support of our participants, as well as their networks of friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers who have pledged the donations that contribute significantly to our annual fund.
This fun event could not be successful without the generous contributions of all of our supporters and our many participants and volunteers - many of whom not only raised funds for the hike but also volunteered. We are fortunate to be in such a generous community and to have such great support from our friends and neighbors.
If anyone would like to support Hike for the Homeless, donations can be mailed to: Groundworks Collaborative, P.O. Box 370, Brattleboro, VT 05302.
Brattleboro's Seasonal Overflow Shelter opened on Nov. 1, and we are still in need of volunteers. Those interested in volunteering to make a difference for our neighbors experiencing homelessness should contact Parker at volunteer@GroundworksVT.org or 802-490-8178.
