The Actors Theatre Playhouse will hold open interviews and auditions for its 2017 Ten Minute Play Festival at the Brattleboro Savings & Loan community room, 221 Main St., on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 1 p.m., and Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 6:30 p.m.
Copies of the scripts are available as PDF files by email from the producer, Jim Bombicino, at jbombicino@svcable.net. Those interested in auditioning should contact Bombicino with the date they will attend or to make other arrangements for auditioning if they are unable to attend either session.
Since August, the Playhouse's selection committee has reviewed more than 120 scripts submitted by New England playwrights. In recent weeks, the selection has been narrowed down to 12. From these, seven plays will be selected for our next Festival, which will open the Playhouse 2017 Season.
The goal is to provide an opportunity for new playwrights to have their work recognized and brought to life. Since the beginning of the festival, it has also been ATP's goal to create as many acting and directing opportunities as possible. Actor participation and involvement are key to the success of the program, and the challenge this year is to cast as many as 20 actors.
At the auditions, actors will be asked to read from the plays that interest them and may be asked to read for other plays as well. Actors may audition for as many plays as they would like and may act in more than one play.
Table reads will start in January 2017 and everyone will be off-book by mid-May. Rehearsals will be spread out over several months, with the most intense time being the two weeks prior to the opening and through the first weekend's run.
Actors should plan to have May 30 through June 8 open and available every evening. Directors will make up the exact rehearsal schedules for their respective plays with their actors.
