BRATTLEBORO — This year, Community College of Vermont will continue its partnership with the Vermont Department of Libraries to support six Job Hunt Helpers - CCV work-study students who are available to help library patrons search for and apply to jobs and career opportunities - at public libraries around the state.
Beginning this month, students will once again be available at Brooks Memorial Library.
The Job Hunt Helpers program launched in February 2016 with funding from the Vermont Department of Libraries as well as the J. Warren and Lois McClure Foundation, according to a news release.
This year, the Job Hunt Helpers program will be funded exclusively by the Department of Libraries, which received a federal grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to promote information literacy in Vermont communities.
The spring semester at CCV, which begins Jan. 23, will mark the third continuous semester of the Job Hunt Helper program. Students logged roughly 150 help sessions with library patrons between March and December of last year, assisting with job searches, resume preparation, career exploration and research, computer use, and education and training searches.
At Brooks Memorial Library, Job Hunt Helper Danielle Braverman provided assistance during the fall 2016 semester, and she'll be returning to help library visitors with job- and career-related tasks during the week of Jan. 23. The library says it will announce her appointment schedule soon.
The library also has desktop public-access computers, laptops, and mobile devices for use during open hours, which includes three evenings per week (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday) until 9 p.m.
Clients of the Vermont Department of Labor Resource Center who want to continue their job-related work after that center closes are encouraged to visit the library during evening hours and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit brookslibraryvt.org.
