PSB: Approve VY sale to NorthStar

VERNON — I was among the Windham County business people who attended the recent informational briefing by NorthStar CEO Scott State.

Mr. State described a well-thought-out proposal to decommission and prepare the VY site for a new employer as soon as 2026. NorthStar has handled much larger projects than VY. The company is a national leader in this specialized field of power-plant decommissioning. Its safety record is excellent.

Vernon and Windham County will benefit from NorthStar's presence in our community as their employees patronize our local businesses.

When decommissioning is complete and a new employer takes Vermont Yankee's place, additional businesses, jobs, and tax revenue will be created. Decommissioning will also hasten removal of radioactive materials from the VY site.

I encourage the Public Service Board to study the application closely and fairly, and then approve the sale.
