Gateway Foundation offers college scholarships

BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Rotary Club will again offer scholarships to graduating students of Brattleboro, Leland & Gray, and Hinsdale, N.H., high schools.

The amount of assistance will be $2,000 to $3,000 per student. A combination of financial need, academic achievement, and community service will be used as criteria for selecting the applicants.

Applications and financial assistance forms are available at each school's guidance department, as well as at www.brattlebororotaryclub.org, and must be submitted by Friday, May 19, to John C. Mabie, in care of Corum Mabie Cook Prodan Angell & Secrest, PLC, 45 Linden St., Brattleboro, VT 05301.

Every application must include a student application, a Parent Contribution Questionaire, a 250-word essay entitled “What I learned by doing community service this year,” and a current grade transcript.

The awards will be presented during the graduation festivities at the three high schools in June. In addition, the Rotary Club will invite every recipient given an award to attend a Club luncheon meeting this summer to be recognized by members.

The Gateway Foundation was established more than 30 years ago by the Brattleboro Rotary Club to help deserving students attend the college of their choice. It has presented more than $450,000 in scholarships. Funding comes from various annual Rotary fundraising events, such as the Christmas Tree sale, and generous contributions from Rotarians and members of the community.

Gateway's scholarships are different from those offered by the Brattleboro Sunrise Rotary.
