The 2017 warm season of wetness rolls on

Good day to you! While we can expect some isolated to scattered showers or thunderstorms through Thursday evening, along with drying for Friday, the chance for showers and thunderstorms will increase again over the weekend.

In fact, Sunday could produce some severe weather in the region, so stay tuned to locally-updated outlets in southern Vermont for the latest. Showery weather looks to continue into at least early next week before we get some drying and cooling towards next Wednesday. To the details we go!

For this Wednesday and Thursday, we will have a mix of higher pressure trying to work into the region, along with continued warm and humid conditions. While this should keep widespread rain or severe weather from developing, the atmosphere will still be able to generate a few hit-and-miss showers and thunderstorms during each day and evening.

Aside from some patchy fog early on Wednesday morning, these two days will feature partly to mostly sunny skies with highs in the low 80s and lows in the middle 60s.

By Friday, a front should be shifting south of our region, which would allow for a mostly sunny and drier day with highs in the low 80s and lows in the low 60s under partly cloudy skies. This will be our wet weather respite, before we haul the soup bowls back out and fill up with more showers, storms, and humidity.

By Saturday, a shortwave - a small wave of low pressure - will be traveling east along the frontal boundary to our south and should re-introduce the potential for more scattered showers and thunderstorms Saturday into Saturday night with highs near 80 and lows in the low 60s.

By Sunday, the front to our south should return north as a warm front as another more significant piece of energy moves out of the Ohio Valley and into New England. This could introduce substantial instability into the region, and if winds aloft are strong enough, could result in substantial severe weather in the form of thunderstorms with gusty winds and hail. Highs on Sunday will be in the mid 70s.

By early next week, it looks like the shortwave train keeps on rolling, with more chance for scattered showers into Tuesday before we get a cold front moving through to usher in some cooler and drier conditions. Have a great week!
