Main Street Arts String Band welcomes musicians

SAXTONS RIVER — The musicians of the Main Street Arts String Band are looking for a few good - or just enthusiastic - musicians to join their weekly sessions.

The group meets each Wednesday, from 5 to 6:15 p.m., to play traditional square dance and fiddle tunes from around the world under the leadership of fiddler Jill Newton.

“We have a good time together in a friendly, informal way,” Newton said in a news release. “We welcome any level of musicianship and any instrument. We've had a keyboardist, and we'd love to have an accordion.”

The fee for the 12-week session is $96 for MSA members and $120 for nonmembers. The drop-in rate is $10 and $12. Newton encourages anyone who would like to show up with an instrument - stringed or otherwise - to drop in to check out the group.
