Entries sought for ‘Raised Voices: Local Artists Resist!’ exhibit

BRATTLEBORO — A group of local artists and fine craftsmen have initiated a call for art that reflects on the current political situation.

Organizers of “Raised Voices: Local Artists Resist!” invite participants to “stand up and express your hopes, your outrage, your vision,” in the face of the current times.

This call for art is open to all mediums, including writing (one page maximum and presented as visually engaging) that can be wall-hung. The process will culminate in an exhibit throughout May at the River Garden. An opening reception will be held May 4, 2018, a Gallery Walk Friday.

Artists may submit a maximum of two pieces of wall art. Art must be no more than 36 inches wide and 36 inches tall.

A nonrefundable jury fee of $20 is due with the application.

All proceeds will go to three organizations: Planned Parenthood of Northern New England - Brattleboro, ACLU Foundation of Vermont, and Vermont Workers' Center. Artists may choose 50 percent or 100 percent of proceeds from work sold to go to these organizations.

Organizers for “Raised Voices!” are Jackie Abrams, Kay Curtis, Arlene Distler, Kris McDermet, and Petria Mitchell.
