BRATTLEBORO — Come hear what's on the minds of our local youth at the Brattleboro Literary Festival's second annual Teen Poetry, Prose, and Pizza Slam at the Boys & Girls Club on Saturday, April 21, at 8 p.m.
The winner receives a $100 cash prize and publication online at Green Mountains Review, and the runner-up receives a $50 cash prize. There will be door prizes and a raffle with gift certificates from local businesses, a performance by the Burlington teen slam quartet Muslim Girls Making Change, and a pizza party generously donated by Ramunto's Pizza.
Judges are Diana Whitney, J River Helms, and Shanta Lee Gander.
This year, slam participants are being offered performance workshops led by Muslim Girls Making Change and Christopher Johnson (workshops sponsored by Vermont Performance Lab).
Workshops will be held at New England Youth Theatre from April 21, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. High school students are encouraged to sign up to read their original poem by emailing Sophie Guerrina at sophie.guerrina@compass-school.org.
This free event is made possible by sponsors Vermont Performance Lab and the Ben & Jerry's Foundation, and major donors Ramunto's Pizza, Chroma Technology, Putney Charities (led by Basketville and JD McCliments Pub), Guilford Sound, Vermont Country Store, Silver Forest, and Farnum Insulators.
