Jazz-trained guitarist Jesse Peters is available for private instruction and also plans to start Village Guitar sessions beginning in May in Chester and Saxtons River.
Village Guitar is a jam-based guitar learning system, led by Peters. Sessions will begin in mid-late May, and guitar students from beginner to intermediate are encouraged to attend, according to a news release.
Each session will feature one or more popular songs along with written solos for each, from simple to more challenging. Three such solos are provided for each song, along with written and video learning aids.
Students can push themselves to grow in a safe and supportive environment. Technical tips will be provided, along with help in rhythm playing. Each student will have the opportunity to practice their solos with the backing of the rest of the group. Improvisation is encouraged.
Songs are drawn from the catalog of popular music, rock, blues, and ballads, with an emphasis on simple, rhythmic pieces. Village Guitar sessions run a little over an hour, and will cost $20 per session.
Village Guitar will be offered on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. at Christ's Church on Main Street in Saxtons River (across from The Village Market), and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m., at Chester Music Center, 295 Main St. (the former Moondog Cafe). Private instruction is also available in both locations. Contact Peters to set up a time.
