Not off to good start

VERNON — H.L. Mencken wrote, “Every decent man is ashamed of the government he lives under.”

I, for one, am ashamed that there are candidates running for the position of governor of |Vermont who have agreed to close Vermont Yankee as a means of winning a political primary.

It is immoral to seek this position by promising to throw 650 or more people out into the street. I cannot trust anyone who has made such a selfish “I-win-you-lose” decision.  The essence of good governing should be “win/win.”

To anyone who made such a campaign promise: You are not off to a very good start.
