Twenty years ago, my husband and I left the Brattleboro Retreat for some of the very same reasons. I was a registered nurse there and he, a mental-health worker.
We woke up one morning and both realized how the administration's unrealistic changes to direct-care staff was having an impact on the safety of our clientele, as well as our ability to sleep well!
We moved to the Concord, N.H. area, where I went to work at the New Hampshire State Hospital, and he went back to electronics.
