Good day to you, southeastern denizens of the Green Mountain State! If you love warm-to-hot, hazy, humid, thundery summer weather, the Summer of 2018 is turning out to be your season, indeed.
We had a little bit of a break this past Sunday and Monday, but we're heading right back into the humidity, showers, downpours, and thunderstorms for our upcoming seven-day period.
It appears that Sunday will again serve as a break in the wet weather, and will be the pick of this upcoming weekend, so outdoor plans should be supported by our lower atmosphere. Having said that, let's jump into the details!
For Wednesday, a low pressure system will be tracking northeast through the Ohio Valley and into the eastern Great Lakes. At the same time, high pressure is setting up over the western Atlantic Ocean.
The circulations around each of these systems will once again send a tropical plume of moisture at all levels northward along the eastern seaboard and right into southern Vermont - just our luck!
Well, in a way, we are lucky, as some parts of Windham County have been dealing with a moderate drought according to the U.S. National Drought Monitor, so the rain is welcome. Expect highs on Wednesday in the upper 70s, lows in the low 70s and dew points in the upper 60s to low 70s for a very humid feel.
The result of all this moisture will be the propagation of showers, downpours, and thunderstorms Wednesday and Wednesday night. The warm frontal passage should bring showers on Wednesday morning. After a lull, we should see a resumption of heavier downpours and thunderstorms later Wednesday and into the overnight hours, with some damaging wind gusts and street flooding possible.
For Thursday through Saturday, we should see partly sunny days with scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms each day. Expect highs in the low 80s each day and lows in the upper 60s with continued high humidity.
Sunday looks like the pick of the week, with highs in the mid 80s, sunshine, high humidity, and no rainfall expected, so get out to your favorite swimming hole, or enjoy the early August summer weather.
By early next week, we should see temperatures starting to climb to near 90 degrees for highs with the resumption of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Have a great week!
