A stomy Wednesday, then autumn flexes its seasonal muscles

Good day to you, southeastern Vermonters! Autumn is most certainly flexing some seasonal muscle as of late, and the majority of the upcoming seven-day period will be no different.

However, we will be experiencing a single, breezy, muggy and potentially stormy late-summer day for Wednesday before we drop back down into fall. In fact, after Wednesday, the period of Thursday through Monday looks fair, dry and seasonable overall, with a chance for showers by next Tuesday. Having said that, let's jump into the details!

For Wednesday, a warm front that pushed through during Tuesday night will result in much more humid conditions across southern Vermont with southerly wind gusts up to 25-30 mph at times. In addition, occasional showers will be possible during the morning and into the early afternoon.

The main weather impact, however, will be anywhere from the mid afternoon into the early evening as a cold front approaches from the west, which will produce a line of showers and thunderstorms.

Wind shear, which is a change in either speed or direction with height, will be strong over the region, and if we can get enough sustained sunny breaks across the region, we could see some storms become strong to severe with localized damaging wind gusts possible.

Expect highs in the low 70s as we warm briefly for one day. Lows will set back down into the low 50s behind the front.

For the period Thursday through Monday, we should be dominated by a couple of high pressure systems out of Canada which will cool us down and dry us out.

For now, Thursday looks to be partly to mostly cloudy as some remnant moisture may get trapped beneath incoming high pressure. Highs should be in the low 60s with lows in the upper 40s.

Friday through Monday look mostly sunny at the moment, with highs in the mid 60s Friday and Saturday, but only in the upper 50s for Sunday and Monday. We can expect lows in the mid to upper 40s Friday and Saturday night, and only in the low 40s Sunday and Monday night.

Another system looks set to bring more rainfall to the region by the middle of next week, so Tuesday may feature some scattered showers with seasonable temperatures. Have a great week!
