The Actors Theatre Playhouse plans a series of open auditions for its 2019 Ten Minute Play Festival.
Auditions will take place at the Green Street School Library, 164 Green St,, Brattleboro, on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 10 a.m., and Thursday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m.
Festival dates are Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, June 6-22, 2019.
Since the inception of the festival 12 years ago, the goal has been to provide an opportunity for new playwrights to have their work recognized and brought to life.
According to a news release, ATP says the festival “attracts seasoned actors and newcomers alike and has created many acting and directing opportunities each year.”
Because actor participation and enthusiasm are key to the festival's success, its directors “strive to cast a large number of actors of various experiences, ages, and types.”
Once again, ATP has come up with a unique selection of 10-minute plays from more than 300 national submissions.
“The plays that have made the final cuts are great scripts which the festival team felt couldn't be passed up,” festival organizers write.
Those auditioning will be asked to read from the plays that interest them. “Directors may ask you to read for other plays as well. You may audition for as many plays as you like, and you may be cast in more than one play,” organizers write.
Directors may hold callbacks on Sunday, Dec. 9, with informal table reads as further auditions.
Rehearsals for the 10-minutes plays begin gently in January, and everyone will be off book by mid-May.
“Just a few rehearsals will be spread out over several months, with the most intensely scheduled rehearsal time being the two weeks prior to the opening,” organizers write. “You should plan to be available on call to rehearse any evening and weekend during the final three weeks before opening.”
The directors will schedule rehearsals for their respective plays. Directors include Mo Hart, Wendy Almeida, Jim Bombicino, Mike Jerald, Charlene Kennedy, Brenda Seitz, and Burt Tepfer.
Nancy Hamilton will stage manage, and co-producers are Bombicino and Tepfer.
Those considering auditioning may request PDF files of the plays from co-director Mo Hart (mohart68@gmail.com), who should be notified about actors' intentions of auditioning.
Those unable to attend either audition session or who won't make it there on time should contact Hart to make other arrangements.
Hart also invites anyone interested in volunteering at the Playhouse to contact her. Such duties include assisting with stage management, lights and sound, costumes, box office, public relations, and administration.
