Co-op employment descrimination

Community should know

BRATTLEBORO — I want to talk about my experience of being discriminated against by the Brattleboro Co-op. I am disabled with mild CP and I was helping a work member with her member hours and they put me in the bulk department. The department manager really liked my work and she offered me 15 hours of paid work and I said yes. We talked to the human resource assistant and she asked me to step away so she and the HR person could talk. After that the department manager said to.me that the HR person gave her every excuse not to hire me. So I went the next day and pulled my membership. Over the next couple of months I asked again of the general.manager if I could work and she claimed that there was no money in the budget and I said ” Then why did the department manager offer me a job?” While shopping at the co-op I saw that there were a lot of new hires. I didnt see any new disabled people working there. I felt hurt and sad because I always think that places like the co-op would be more inclusive. I stand fully and completely behind what I say. I think the community should know this.
